The Roen are perhaps the most populus rational species in the galaxy, but are not politically organized as are the Humans or the Alyae. Instead they remain resolutely neutral in galactic and even local politics, preferring a moderate degree of isolation. They are not inhospitable or unkind to other species, they are simply uninterested in involving themselves too deeply in the cares of others. The species has both nomadic impulses and a desire for putting down deep roots and forming a connection to the land
The Roen are short and small, with fur covered bodies and rodent features. Like the Ulfar, they have an inverted shin, though they have significantly smaller claws on their feet. Unlike the Ulfar, the Roen have large incisors on the upper and bottom rows, instead of a prominent canines. There are six variants of the Roen, each with a distinct set of phyiscal features
The Roen have generally good relations with most of the rational species, though their isolation is sometimes mistaken for simplicity. In some cases, the Roen are not welcome neigbors, in which cases the Roen are just as likely to leave as they are to dig in, even if they have lived in an area for generations
Some Roen feel the nomadic impulses of their species so strongly that they seek out the wider world more permanently, never settling down. Many Roen adventurers still travel primarily with other Roen, driven by culture and instinct. There are a relatively small number of Roen that travel without Roen companions. The Engul are typically more likely to become adventurers, and more likely to travel with other species
Roen are grouped into two general categories, the Engul and the Mordis. The most obvious differnce between the sub-species is size and the sub-type characteristices they exhibit. Within each sub-species there are three sub-types
The Engul (en-ghoul) are the larger and stronger of the Roen sub-species. They are taller and heavier than the Mordis, on average. Their features resemble porcupines, rabbits, or chipmunks. Engul Roen receive a different bonus based on their Variant Bonus. Porcupine variants have long quills which flow like wide mohawks over their heads and down their backs to the base of their wider tails. Rabbit variants have exceptionally large incisors, longer ears, and stubby tails. Chipmunk variants have a distinct striped fur pattern, bushy tails, and a more compact frame for an Engul
