Rules governing Advent classes

An Incanter wields ancient runes of power, remnants of a primal language from when the galaxy was much younger, and Ki spirits were using language and thought to create planets and shape the fates of all living things

Incanters must invest heavily into their craft and the results are unpredictable, making an Incanter a very rare sight throughout the galaxy. Their labor, however, is rewarded. After they learn the six fundamental runes, they are able to discover new runes, seemingly at random. These runes are powerful, flexible, and extremely effective

Incantations have a verbal and somatic component, requiring an audible invocation paired with a hand gesture. When invoked, a rune of pure light appears in front of the Incanter's hands, hanging in mid-air. Some runes, such as Chord, will follow the Incanter's hand movements

Rune: locus

Special: The point of light deals no damage and has no mass

Rune: chord

Description: With a slashing motion you connect two loci, twisting it to release a band of energy that slices like a whip

Offensive: Attack Bonus + Dex + 6d6
Defensive: Defense Bonus + Dex + 6d6
Damage: Int x 2 + 6d6 [Slashing]
Cooldown: 6 rounds
Special: Attacking with a standard action grants one attack which does not invoke the cooldown. Attacking with a full action grants two attacks which can be used in the same segment or separate segments. Attacking with two attacks invokes the cooldown, which only applies to using a full action

Rune: pane

Action: Standard
Requires: Rune: Chord
Description: Using two or three chords, you create a plane that emits a soft light which obstructs vision
Rune Color: White
Range: 5 feet
Speed: Instant
Effect: A trapezoidal plane of light is created, roughly one 5 foot square (or hex). Lasts one segment
Cooldown: 12 rounds
Special: The pane must be roughly rectangular. The pane is capable of providing cover
Talent Point Improvements:
□ Reduce the required action to Move
□ Extend the range by 5 feet. Maximum range is 30 feet
□ Expand the surface area of the pane by one hex. Maximum size is 7 hexes
□ Extend the duration by 1 segment. Maximum duration is 4 segments
□ Reduce the cooldown by 1 round


Rune: object

Action: Full
Requires: Rune: Pane
Description: Passing a dimension through a pane, you exude a small simple object
Rune Color: White
Range: 5 feet
Effect: Creates a small object made of wood, metal, stone, clay, or rope
Cooldown: Once per day
Special:

  • The object must fit within a 6 inch cube (10 inch diagonal). The object can have no more than three moving parts, and you do not have fine control over the dimensions of the created object
  • Object can cancel a rune word if spoken in the segment. Requires Rune: Push


Rune: push

Description: Exert a generalized force, propelling yourself forward
Rune Color: White
Range: Self
Speed: 3H
Effect: Move yourself in the target direction, 15 feet
Cooldown: Once per day
Special:

  • Push can be used to push an object or creature within the range. Requires Rune: Focus
  • Push can be used to influence a negotiation, granting a +2 bonus to a Diplomacy check. Requires Rune: Focus
  • Push cannot be resisted, and can only be blocked by a rune effect

Rune: focus

Action: Standard
Requires: Rune: Push
Description: Increases your, or your ally's focus
Rune Color: White
Range: 10 feet
Speed: Instant
Cooldown: Once per day
Special:

  • Focus can be used to grant a second roll on a skill check, dexterity check, or intelligence check. Keep either result at your option
  • Focus can be used to triple your visual range and acuity for 1 hour. May be used on target creature within range
  • Focus cannot be resisted, and can only be blocked by a rune effect

Discovery

Requires: Rune: Focus
Description: After intense study and meditation, the eureka moment occurs and you uncover an ancient rune of power
Effect: You gain a Discovery Rune, selected at random
Special:

  • When you take this talent, you gain a random talent from the Discovery Runes list
  • To discover your Rune Word, roll 2d6 and use the table below to determine your rune. After you roll, you decide which die is your primary. The remaining die is your secondary die
  • If your resulting rune is one you already have, roll again
  • Your dice roll may not be modified by other abilities
  • You may take this talent multiple times

Description: You study meta-runes, a class of runes that directly affect other runes
Effect: You may select one of the Meta runes
Special:

  • You must have used discovery at least once before you may learn a meta-rune
  • You may select any of the meta-runes when taking this talent
  • You may repeat this talent until you have all three meta-runes

Balance

Action: Standard
Requires: Obtained via Discovery
Description: Bring things into balance
Rune Color: White
Range: 10 feet
Speed: Instant
Cooldown: Once per day
Special:

  • Balance can be used to grant target creature a +2 bonus to Acrobatics
  • Balance can be used to grant a +2 Diplomacy bonus for 1 day to a creature in a weaker position
  • Balance can be used to remove all mental Conditions and effects on target creature
  • Balance can be used to remove advantage or disadvantage
  • Balance can be used to bring a large object into balance. The object shifts, finding equilibrium
  • Balance can be used to weigh the difference between two objects or creatures, for a given characteristic. The result comes back as “Weaker”, “Stronger”, or “Draw” for even matches. Any characteristic may be weighed, including all character stats (Strength, Initiative, Hit points, current Hit Points, etc). If for some reason the comparison cannot be made, the result also comes back as “Draw”. Players should not be told in advance whether the comparison will be successful
  • Balance cannot be resisted, and can only be blocked by a rune effect

Burn

Action: Standard
Requires: Obtained via Discovery
Description: Burn away what once was
Rune Color: Pale red
Range: 10 feet
Speed: Instant
Cooldown: Once per day
Special:

  • Burn can be used to create a light source that lasts for 1 week. The light can vary in intensity from a candle flicker to a bonfire, at your option. The light source can hover, be held in your hand, or moved at your discretion
  • Burn can be used to remove a rune effect
  • Burn can be used to remove all illusions within the range
  • Burn can cause target object or creature to catch on fire, dealing 18d6 damage, plus 6d6 each segment until the flames are put out
  • Burn can be used to heighten anger or desire. The emotion and its target are decided by the GM
  • Burn cannot be resisted, and can only be blocked by a rune effect

Clarify

Action: Standard

Description: Clear away confusion and uncertainty
Rune Color: Pale blue
Range: 10 feet
Speed: Instant
Cooldown: Once per day
Special:

  • Clarify can be used to grant target creature a +2 bonus on an Int-based skill check
  • Clarify can be used to grant all creatures within range understanding of another language for 1 hour
  • Clarify can be used to clear visual obstacles, such as fog, foliage, dust on a window, or darkness
  • Clarify can be used to identify, but not remove, all rune effects and illusions within the range
  • Clarify can be used to purify up to 1 million units of water (100 hex cube)
  • Clarify cannot be resisted, and can only be blocked by a rune effect

Cloud

Action: Standard

Description: Hinder understanding and memory
Rune Color: Pale red
Range: 10 feet
Speed: 3H
Cooldown: Once per day
Special:

  • Cloud can be used to spread a thick fog within the range for 1 hour. Provides total concealment
  • Cloud can be used used to cloud target mind for 1 hour, imposing a -2 penalty on all Int Skills
  • Cloud can be used to cloud the minds of all creatures within the range for 1 minute, imposing a -2 penalty on all Intelligence based Skills
  • Cloud can be used to suppress a specific memory in a target creature, imposing a permanent -2 penalty on Recall knowledge checks to recall the memory
  • Cloud cannot be resisted, and can only be blocked by a rune effect

Conceal

Action: Standard

Description: Shroud the truth
Rune Color: Pale red

  • Conceal can be used to render target creature or object invisible for 1 hour
  • Conceal can be used to render all creatures currently within 15 feet invisible for 8 hours, provided they remain within range of the original incantation
  • Conceal can be used to grant target creature a +2 bonus to Diplomacy checks intended to conceal
  • Conceal can be used to prevent scrying (all extra-sensory perception) within the range for 1 day
  • Conceal cannot be resisted, and can only be blocked by a rune effect

Divide

Action: Standard

Description: Split, tear, rend
Rune Color: Pale red
Range: 10 feet
Speed: Instant
Cooldown: Once per day
Special:

  • Divide can be used to reduce any cooldown by half
  • Divide can be used to reduce the duration of a rune effect or talent by half
  • Divide can be used to divide a creature's focus, imposing a -2 penalty on all Int Skills
  • Divide can be used to create a division between creatures within the range. The division divides the creatures into two groups of your choosing. Diplomacy checks made between groups suffer a -2 penalty for 1 day
  • Divide can be used to separate adjacent objects/creatures, or groups of objects/creatures. The targets are pushed up to 15 feet in perfectly opposite directions of your choosing
  • Divide can be used to cut a non-living object in half. Up to large size
  • Divide cannot be resisted, and can only be blocked by a rune effect

Erase

Action: Standard

Description: Remove the undesired

  • Erase can be used to remove all rune effects within range
  • Erase can be used to remove all illusions within range
  • Erase can be used to grant a +2 bonus to Wilderness survival when hiding tracks within the range
  • Erase can be used to erase all recent memories that target creature has of the Incanter
  • Erase can be used to remove ink, paint, dye, or etching from a non-living surface
  • Erase cannot be resisted, and can only be blocked by a rune effect

Fortune

Action: Standard

Description: Turn the odds in your favor
Rune Color: White
Range: 10 feet
Speed: Instant
Cooldown: Once per day
Special:

  • Fortune can be used to grant a +2 bonus to all Diplomacy checks made to negotiate, for 1 day
  • Fortune can be used to change two die faces in a roll, bumping them up or down by 1. Example: Change a die that rolled “3” to a “4”, or a “2” to a “1”
  • Fortune can be used to turn a successful hit into a critical hit
  • Fortune can be used to make an unlikely physical result occur. A flipped coin may land on its edge, a rare and favorable hand may be dealt in cards, or a spinning leaf lands on your outstretched finger. The outcome is relevant to the situation, but the exact outcome is determined by the GM
  • As fortune is used over time, its residual energy lingers on the Incanter, causing financial transactions to often work out in their favor
  • Fortune cannot be resisted, and can only be blocked by a rune effect

Description: Connect the unconnected
Rune Color: White
Range: 10 feet
Speed: Instant
Cooldown: Once per day
Special:

  • Link can be used to connect two minds for one hour, allowing them to mentally communicate
  • Link can be used to create a link between two objects for one hour, causing force applied to one object to be applied to the other object
  • Link can be used to create links between rune effects. Rune effects can become conditional, set to expire when the other expires, to begin when the other ends, to engage when a new rune effect materializes, etc. Conditions last for up to 1 week before expiring. Link does not extend the duration of a rune effect, but can delay its initiation
  • Link cannot be resisted, and can only be blocked by a rune effect

Mend

Action: Standard

Description: Restore what is broken
Rune Color: Pale blue
Range: 10 feet

Special:

  • Mend can be used to repair a small, non-living object over the course of one round
  • Mend can be used to heal for 18d6, remove all negative condition, and residual pain
  • Mend can be used to restore all erased or altered memories for target creatures
  • Mend can be used remove minor imperfections in a die roll, changing the result of one die
  • Mend cannot be resisted, and can only be blocked by a rune effect

Quell

  • Quell can be used to dissipate a turbulent natural phenomenon
  • Quell can be used to calm strong emotions in target creature
  • Quell can be used to prevent target creature from attacking anything for one hour
  • Quell can be used to end one rune effect
  • Quell cannot be resisted, and can only be blocked by a rune effect

Rest

Action: Standard
Requires: Obtained via Discovery
Description: Bring them to rest
Rune Color: Pale blue
Range: 10 feet
Speed: Instant
Cooldown: Once per day
Special:

  • Rest can be used to stop a medium sized object from moving
  • Rest can be used to stop a creatures movement and prevent movement for 2 rounds
  • Rest can be used put target creature to sleep. If the creature sleeps for 4 hours or more, they awaken as if they had been well rested for a week
  • Rest can be used to dissipate a movement based natural phenomenon (tornadoes, flood)
  • Rest can be used to silence a sound or all sound within range for 1 round, interrupting and stopping whatever processes or actions that were causing the sound(s)
  • Rest cannot be resisted, and can only be blocked by a rune effect

Reveal

Special:

  • Reveal can be used to remove all invisibility effects and reveal all illusions and rune effects in range
  • Reveal can be used to grant a +2 bonus to Perception, Investigation, and Recall knowledge checks to all creatures within range, including enemies, for 10 minutes
  • Reveal can be used to reveal the truth, identifying all creatures within the range that have lied in the last 60 seconds with a white glow. Alternatively, it may be used to learn the truth behind a target lie
  • Reveal can be used to reveal creatures within the range that have hidden hostility towards the Incanter. The Incanter alone can see hostile creatures, identified with a white glow
  • Reveal can be used to restore one blocked or erased memory in target creature
  • Reveal can be used to invoke Transcend
  • Reveal can be used to uncover a creature's weak-point. The next attack made against the target creature's weak-point is a critical hit
  • Reveal cannot be resisted, and can only be blocked by a rune effect

Shield

Action: Standard

Description: Raise your shield
Rune Color: Pale blue
Range: 10 feet

Special:

  • Shield can be used to create an immovable physical shield, 15 feet square. Lasts for one day. The shield appears as a floating rune with an extended triangular web
  • Shield can be used to protect target creature from mental attacks and manipulation for 1 hour
  • Shield can be used to protect target creature from all rune effects for 1 week
  • Shield can be used to prevent the use of all runes in target area for 1 week
  • Shield cannot be resisted, and cannot be removed by a rune effect

Tap

Action: Standard

Description: Just a tap
Rune Color: White
Range: 10 feet
Speed: Instant
Cooldown: Once per day
Special:

  • Tap can be used to create a tapping or knocking sound at target location
  • Tap can be used to open an energy source for use, connecting the incanter to it
  • Tap can be used to open a container or pipe, releasing the contents
  • Tap can be used to set target creature's ability on a one day cooldown
  • Tap can be used to draw on the power of a local Atua, gaining a surge of power that grants you a bonus standard action which must be used immediately
  • Tap can be used to move target object or creature 10 feet in any direction
  • Tap cannot be resisted, and can only be blocked by a rune effect

Tether

Action: Standard

Description: Bind what is loose
Rune Color: White
Range: 10 feet
Speed: Instant
Cooldown: Once per day
Special:

  • Tether can be used to permanently adhere one object to another
  • Tether can be used to permanently anchor an object to its current location, preventing it from being moved more than 15 feet from its current location, as if it were attached by an invisible rope
  • Tether can be used to protect target creature from mental attacks and manipulation for 1 hour
  • Tether can be used to grant a +2 bonus to Recall knowledge checks for 1 day
  • Tether cannot be resisted, and can only be blocked by a rune effect

Unravel

Action: Standard

Description: Pull on the thread
Rune Color: Pale red

  • Unravel can be used to remove a rune effect and undo all changes it made
  • Unravel can be used to untie a knot or unravel a tangle in rope or string
  • Unravel can be used to dismantle a mechanical system
  • Unravel can be used to give target creature the disoriented condition for 1 hour
  • Unravel can be used to unravel a piece of cloth, provided that it is not in close contact with a creature's ki field
  • Unravel cannot be resisted, and can only be blocked by a rune effect

Ward

Action: Standard

Description: Watch and listen
Rune Color: White
Range: 10 feet
Speed: Instant
Cooldown: Once per day
Special:

  • Ward can be used to create a ward to scry target location within the range. The Incanter can see and hear what happens at target location. Lasts until cancelled or ward is used to scry a new location
  • Ward can be used to create a ward to prevent scrying, illusions, and rune effects from occurring within the target area. The target area is a circle with a radius no longer than this talent's range. Lasts until cancelled or Ward is used to prevent scrying at a new location
  • Ward can be used to create a ward that prevents a single rune effect of your choosing from occurring within the target area for 1 month
  • Ward can be used create a ward that prevents the acquisition of diseases for 1 month, and cures any disease contracted within the last 12 hours
  • Once in place, a Ward that prevents a rune effect cannot be destroyed by the rune effect it prevents
  • Ward cannot be resisted, and can only be blocked by a rune effect

Meta runes


Amplify

Action: Standard
Requires: Obtained via Meta-rune
Description: Amplify and enhance the target rune effect
Rune Color: White
Range: 10 feet
Speed: Instant
Cooldown: Once per day
Special:

  • Amplify can be used to select one aspect of a rune effect and double it. This doubles the cooldown of the target rune. Applies to any rune effect listed in a rune's Special token
  • Amplify can be used to amplify the volume of the target creature's voice for up to 10 minutes
  • Amplify can be used to severely enhance the intensity of a natural phenomenon
  • Amplify can apply to an effect in progress, to the next rune the Incanter invokes, or it can be chained immediately after another rune in the same segment, provided you can pay the required action cost of Amplify and the target rune
  • Amplify cannot be resisted, and can only be blocked by a rune effect
  • Amplify modifies the base values of a rune effect, and can only be applied to a rune once

Example: Cloud can be used used to cloud a target's mind for 1 hour, imposing a -2 penalty on all Intelligence based Skills

  • Amplify could increase the effect to two creatures
  • or Amplify could affect the target for 2 hours
  • or Amplify could impose a -4 penalty

Extend

Description: Extend the target rune effect
Rune Color: White
Range: 10 feet

Special:

  • Extend can be used to double the range of the target rune effect
  • Extend can be used to double the duration of the target rune effect
  • Extend can be used to double the duration of an illusion
  • Extend can be used to apply a single-target rune effect to all creatures within 10 feet of the incanter. Must be used before the target rune is invoked
  • Extend can apply to an effect in progress, to the next rune the Incanter invokes, or it can be chained immediately after another rune in the same segment, provided you can pay the required action cost of Extend and the target rune
  • Extend cannot be resisted, and can only be blocked by a rune effect
  • Extend modifies the base values of a rune effect, and can only be applied to a rune once

  • Reduce can be used to reduce the action cost of the next rune invoked by the incanter to Free
  • Reduce can be used to select one aspect of a rune effect and halve it. Applies to any rune effect listed in a rune's Special token
  • Reduce can apply to an effect in progress, to the next rune the Incanter invokes, or it can be chained immediately after another rune in the same segment, provided you can pay the required action cost of Reduce and the target rune
  • Reduce cannot be resisted, and can only be blocked by a rune effect
  • Reduce modifies the base values of a rune effect, and can only be applied to a rune once
