Gioh was established in the Third Age, beginning as an outpost of [[Huang]], its sister city. The elaborate mining tunnels that span the [[Richu Mountains]] provided Huang with an abundance of mineral resources, transported down to the coastal city via the [[Muilean River]]. Over time, this outpost grew, and was officially inaugurated as a city in 356 CE

The city itself is almost entirely underground, in a giant cavern carved out of the rock. In the center of this cavern stands a pillar of rock nearly 500 feet across. Connecting this rock to the outer wall of the cavern is a network of bridges. The pillar decsends to a flat base carved into the rock, under which lava flows simmer. Warm air currents are directed from the lava up the cavern, keeping the entire city at a fairly constant temperature and allow the residents to enjoy gentle, warm breezes. The city extends well beyond the central cavern, a maze of tunnels and smaller nodes which thin out a little more with each passing mile

When the city was first growing, it was joined by a small enclave of [[carragh#Lili Mute]] from [[Dheas]] after it was discovered that Lili Mute were awakening in the deeper regions of the mountains. Though few in number, these new born Carragh became an integral part of Gioh, and contributed to the expansion of the city immensely through petramancy, as every new Carragh born in the mountains had the ability in-born. This oddity attracted scientists from across Terra to study this phenomenon

Several species of bioluminescent plants thrive in the mountains surrounding the city, and the residents keep gardens throughout the city for food, light, and aesthetic. The city is also heavily landscaped with the plants
